Welcome to the Atlanta Jewelry Maker's meetup! My name is Brian Gibney and I am the founder of Amalgam Arts, a jewelry studio in Atlanta, close to Decatur. Our meetups will be held at the Amalgam studio at 3172 E. Ponce de Leon Ave, 30079. We're starting to have a great core of people coming to our meetups, but beginners are ALWAYS welcome! Thanks to all who came last time! December's Meetup will be Earring Making. Learn how to make sterling silver earrings in just one afternoon!! The cost of this workshop is $35 (cash, check...AND credit card!) and includes silver, instruction in the use of the torch, metal forming, and polishing, and light snacks and drink. If you decide you want stones you can choose from our in-house selections (stones are an additional $10). October will feature a dual event. AMALGAM's seasonal Bead and Stone Trunk Sale AND the first ever pendant-making workshop. Select from a variety of hand-cut stones and exotic beads and learn how to use them to create an original silver pendant! The cost of this workshop is $35 (cash, check...AND credit card!) and includes silver, instruction in the use of the torch, metal forming, and polishing, and light snacks and drink. If you decide you want stones or beads for your pendant you can choose from our vendors' in-house selections (stones range from $10-30 and beads range from $10-40). Hopefully they'll work for more people. As you can see, I've changed the time and day of our meetup...we now meet Sundays from 12-4pm. Hopefully this will give you guys more time to enjoy your weekend. I've also had a request to bring back the ring workshop (for some of our newer folks) and have a pendant-making workshop. Our September Meetup will be earring-making. Learn how to make elegant, sterling silver earrings in just a few short hours! We've had ring fabrication workshops, we've taught you how to make earrings...now, how would you guys like to try your hand at some lost wax casting? May 3, from 2-6pm, AMALGAMarts will be holding it's first fingerprint jewelry making workshop. Just in time for Mother's Day, this workshop is perfect for making a unique gift for that special woman in your life. Bring the kids in, make impressions of their fingerprints in wax (or use your own...it's not just for kids!) and our staff will use it to cast one-of-a kind earrings or bracelets in sterling silver. Jewelry will be ready for pickup the following Saturday (May 10). Cash or check only. As always, there are a few examples on our website-- click here to view. This workshop gives you a few options--you can make earrings ($50), pendants ($70), and bracelets ($125) (cash or check only) and provides a comfortable, casual, and productive environment.
